We're back!
The first matches of the new Swengland season have been played, with teams across all divisions getting their campaigns under way. Champions looked to defend their titles, promoted sides faced their first tests at a higher level, and new clubs made their debuts as the tables begin to take shape.
Matchleague Premier
The Matchleague Premier opened with holders Tastur Bondai Barca beginning their title defence with a controlled 54–47 win at Wills Wingdings. The promoted sides had mixed starts: Shadwell Town beat Dzeko & The Bunnymen 53–38, St Ives Seagulls won 44–31 at JDeacon7, and Calzio lost 39–63 to Forever QPR. Victorious Secret’s 68–38 win at Fossil Park East put them ahead on goal difference, Unbeatables won 65–51 at Moaty’s Maniacs, and Replacements edged COYS FC 57–56.
Division 1
Division 1 opened with mixed results for the relegated sides and the newly promoted clubs. IFK Harltonham, down from the Premier, won 57–31 at Chacarita, Alpha Athletic drew 52–52 with By ’Eck, and Badly Good lost 47–49 to Mafia Four Lions. Promoted Eze Does It started with a 48–42 win over Gremlins, Atleterna were beaten 36–52 by Team Gotland, and Team Georgies Boys fell 29–57 to Jurysout. Jurysout set the early pace with that result.
Division 2
Glory Glory went top of the newly expanded Division 2 after beating newcomers Red Exiles 75–38. Both relegated sides opened with wins: Laljiland FC won 60–32 at Kamikazees, while Whalley Range FC beat Real Ale Rovers 49–28. The other brand new club, Cornish Reds, won 59–38 over Gothatters FC. Speckled Jims, returning after a year out, won 51–43 at Henry C FC. Beckenbaurfly edged Makrillarna 67–59, and Bongo Fury defeated Hoofball 50–25.
Reality League
The Reality League opened with Bongo Fury RL going top after a 58–49 win over Mafia Four Lions RL. New sides Whiteadders and TheKudosTouch both started with narrow defeats, Whiteadders losing 51–52 to GAIS and TheKudosTouch beaten 51–56 by Wills Wingdings RL. Shadwell Town RL edged Pukki Bowl FC 33–31, Kudus To You beat No Kane Do 47–42, and Unbeatables RL got past ForeverGAIS 63–60.
MOTW
Manager of the Week goes to Keith Lee for Glory Glory’s 75 points. Laurence managed 25 for Hoofball, so he takes the Worst MOT award. Cheers 🤓
